Chapter 4 develops the skill of map reading using scales and sketches. Chapters 5 and 6 deal with the inter-relationship of the four realms of the earth, i.e., lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, describing the positions of various continents and oceans along with their salient features. Chapter 7 contains the broad physiographic divisions of India comprising the mountains, northern plains, plateaus of peninsular India, coastal plains, deserts and two groups of Islands. Chapter 8 discusses the Indian climate along with natural vegetation and wildlife.
